The Effect of Calcium on Seed Germination and Growth of Celosia at Relatively High Salt Levels
Abstract
When seeds of Celosia cristata were allowed to germinate and elongate under the conditions of high salt (NaCl) level, various degrees of growth rate observed. Supplementing Ca to the salt conditions considerably reduced the detrimental influence on growth and almost restored normality of growth, whereas no such Ca effect was noticed or rather accelerated the inhibitory effect at comparatively low salt concentrations.
The Ca effect was pronounced on radicle length of Celosia, but not on hypocotyl. Mg in the present experiments did not reveal replacing the Ca action.
